Two Months!?

It’s still Saturday night, and um, I didn’t forget to blog all day today…

But yeah, It’s Saturday and we recorded our fourth podcast episode yesterday. That means it’s been over 8 weeks since we really started this whole project. (That episode should be out later tomorrow…)

Earlier tonight I tried to stream our second DotO prototype. Something bugged out with the stream and I only got 4 minutes of it saved. I’m going to have to redo that video tomorrow.

Three months ago I’d have never believed that we are this far along already.

It really is a bit misleading. I know it’s going to take a long time to actually finish the game. But I think it’s okay to be happy with the progress too.

I worry a little bit, that people won’t understand how long these things actually take and that they might get a bit antsy. I’m doing my best to keep everyone informed about our progress. I want people to be excited, but I’m also trying to present realistic expectations too.

Anyway, I don’t have any huge updates to share today, so enjoy this character death animation gif…

Ow, that’s gotta hurt!

Talk to you again soon!

Cheers,
Joe.

Critical Hit!

The big news this week here at Knob Cat Games is Minor Stats! Kel has been working hard to get them in the prototype!

Let me explain. DotO is going to have three types of stats: Major, Minor, and Non-Combat.

Major Stats are your Constitution, Strength, Dexterity, and Karma. These are used to determine a lot of aspects of your character. You get Major Stats by leveling up and a lot of them from your equipped Loot. These we’re already in our first prototype and worked pretty good so far!

Non-Combat stats are things like Gold Find. They’re not in the game yet, so we’ll talk more about them in the future.

Finally, Minor Stats determine a lot of special aspects of combat. You get Minor Stats almost exclusively from your equipped Loot.

A pretty wild Minor Stat distribution.

Right now our prototype doesn’t have Loot, but we can assign Minor Stats for testing. There’s going to be quite a few more. But for now Minor Stats are Critical Chance, Critical Damage, Dodge, Revitalize, Block, Physical Damage Boost, and Damage Reduction.

That’s all I have time for now. If you have any questions, be sure to join our Discord Server and we’ll keep you updated!

Cheers,
Joe.

Characters, Animations, and Obelisks

It’s Saturday again (for another hour or two) and I’m here for a DotO update blog!

A lot has happened in the past week, the biggest thing being our character creator. We can now make a character and use that character to play in our prototype. It may not be a huge thing really, but it’s been super exciting for me to see my dream game starting to take shape. Thanks Kel!

Ah yeah, that looks like a character to me!

Another really cool thing is that we have animations too! So once we make that character, we can see it walking around in the dungeon, bobbing as it stands still, and actually swinging the sword as it attacks! Thanks Nyka!

The last thing I want to tell you about this week is these couple “rough” sketches. Ben did these as concepts for the Obelisk. While none of them truly fit my vision yet, I still think they’re each incredible. We’re going to keep pushing on and refining this idea and hopefully showing you another obelisk in a future update! Thanks Ben!

Some obelisks, but not The Obelisk.

Thanks so much for stopping in for my Saturday DotO update and I’ll talk to you again next week!

Cheers,
Joe.

The Most Beautiful Sewer

It’s Saturday, so it’s time for an update blog! I don’t know, can a sewer look amazing?

Green slime oozes it’s way down channels in the first few levels under the mysterious Obelisk. Maybe it’s connected to the sewers of Topia? Glub have started pouring out of the sewers and attacking local cats! If only we had a hero to clear them out!

A delightful sewer scene.

Seriously though, Ben has really knocked it out with this background image. This of course isn’t final yet, as Nyka will be animating some elements of it and then Kel has to get it into the game.

We are happily chugging along here at Knob Cat Games. Our main task in the coming weeks is getting the character animations trigger and looking great. Kel has also set his attention on the character creator, but more on that in the future! For now, have a great weekend!

Cheers,
Joe.

It moves!

It’s Saturday, so time for a DotO Update Blog!

Everyone has been hard at work as usual! With our initial prototype done, it’s now time to turn our attention to the ever exciting world of Data Management! At least that’s what Kel is working on… Hey, don’t worry, it’s the backbone of the game!

In the more exciting news, Ben has finished the background for our first battlefield and Nyka has completed some idle animations. Enjoy this awesome gif…

Default Blank Character and a Glub

If you missed it, I streamed our prototype on Thursday and everyone really enjoyed the video! You can check it out on this post!

In minor news, our website now has a Privacy Policy and our Discord now has rules! See, I’m busy doing business stuff in the background! Anyway, see you next Saturday for my next DotO Update Blog!

Our First Mob!

So, I’ve decided to try to blog here every Saturday, so check back when you can.

It’s been a busy week here at Knob Cat. I’ve been making lots of executive decisions. Ben has been hard at work drawing EVERYTHING. Nyka has almost finalized our character’s animation rig. And Kel is battling all the scary coding that runs everything!

The big news for this week is that we released an image of our first Mob. This little guy is blowing my mind, I can’t believe how good (and by good, I mean evil and slimy) it looks!

Glub.

I’ve been tentatively calling it a Glub. I’m really looking forward to naming all the Mobs that Ben designs.

See you next Saturday for the next DotO Update Blog!

Cheers, Joe. Executive Prime.
