  • Critical Hit!

The big news this week here at Knob Cat Games is Minor Stats! Kel has been working hard to get them in the prototype!

Let me explain. DotO is going to have three types of stats: Major, Minor, and Non-Combat.

Major Stats are your Constitution, Strength, Dexterity, and Karma. These are used to determine a lot of aspects of your character. You get Major Stats by leveling up and a lot of them from your equipped Loot. These we’re already in our first prototype and worked pretty good so far!

Non-Combat stats are things like Gold Find. They’re not in the game yet, so we’ll talk more about them in the future.

Finally, Minor Stats determine a lot of special aspects of combat. You get Minor Stats almost exclusively from your equipped Loot.

A pretty wild Minor Stat distribution.

Right now our prototype doesn’t have Loot, but we can assign Minor Stats for testing. There’s going to be quite a few more. But for now Minor Stats are Critical Chance, Critical Damage, Dodge, Revitalize, Block, Physical Damage Boost, and Damage Reduction.

That’s all I have time for now. If you have any questions, be sure to join our Discord Server and we’ll keep you updated!

    Cheers,
    Joe.

  • Characters, Animations, and Obelisks

It’s Saturday again (for another hour or two) and I’m here for a DotO update blog!

A lot has happened in the past week, the biggest thing being our character creator. We can now make a character and use that character to play in our prototype. It may not be a huge thing really, but it’s been super exciting for me to see my dream game starting to take shape. Thanks Kel!

Ah yeah, that looks like a character to me!

Another really cool thing is that we have animations too! So once we make that character, we can see it walking around in the dungeon, bobbing as it stands still, and actually swinging the sword as it attacks! Thanks Nyka!

The last thing I want to tell you about this week is these couple “rough” sketches. Ben did these as concepts for the Obelisk. While none of them truly fit my vision yet, I still think they’re each incredible. We’re going to keep pushing on and refining this idea and hopefully showing you another obelisk in a future update! Thanks Ben!

Some obelisks, but not The Obelisk.

Thanks so much for stopping in for my Saturday DotO update and I’ll talk to you again next week!

    Cheers,
    Joe.

  • The Most Beautiful Sewer

It’s Saturday, so it’s time for an update blog! I don’t know, can a sewer look amazing?

Green slime oozes it’s way down channels in the first few levels under the mysterious Obelisk. Maybe it’s connected to the sewers of Topia? Glub have started pouring out of the sewers and attacking local cats! If only we had a hero to clear them out!

    A delightful sewer scene.

Seriously though, Ben has really knocked it out with this background image. This of course isn’t final yet, as Nyka will be animating some elements of it and then Kel has to get it into the game.

We are happily chugging along here at Knob Cat Games. Our main task in the coming weeks is getting the character animations trigger and looking great. Kel has also set his attention on the character creator, but more on that in the future! For now, have a great weekend!

    Cheers,
    Joe.
