  • Meta Builds 2025

A lot of the decision on which build to go with depends on what items you already have. Got a great Grave Filler? Then Critical chance might be your best option. If you have a great Destiny then you’ll want to consider trying Gutso in Challenges.

Use this guide for ideas, but I’m certain there is more to discover. The build for Dragon Twister was only just put together a couple weeks ago!

    Critical Chance

Key Pieces: Grave Filler, Mask of Taku-Ra, Shiver, Rat Wranglers

This is probably the  easiest build to make work. It is possibly also the strongest. At the very least, good pieces of this build also synergize with other builds. In short, any amount of Critical Chance is always useful.

Other mainhands can be used, but the guaranteed Critical Chance and cheap attack-all move make Grave Filler the go-to option.

Get a good offhand Shiver and it will be your main source for Critical Damage. They can roll up to 200%. The flat increase from the Focus Damage is also quite powerful.

You’ll also want an Artifact that powers up this build. The Mask of Taku-Ra is the most well rounded. Yule Goat and Unconquered Light are also viable options depending on your rolls.

Finally, Rat Wranglers are another guaranteed source of Critical Chance once you get the material to craft them.

    Double Attack

Key Pieces: Gloop Fist, Path Through Harmony, Lord of Death, Wolf’s Boon

Double Attack is arguably more powerful than Critical Chance because of its ability to chain. Each attack has the same chance to trigger another attack. In practice, at low values, it’s much worse than Critical Chance. But the closer you get to 100%, the more broken it becomes. In theory you can get around 40% Double Attack Chance with all maxed rolls. In practice this is very hard to achieve.

What holds this build back is that there are only two guaranteed sources of Double Attack. First is the offhand, Gloop Fist. Second is the Artifact, Wolf’s Boon. Everything else relies on Minor Modifier rolls. It’s just really hard to get that fabled body with four Double Attack rolls.

Using Path Through Harmony and Lord of Death gets you the two piece set bonus, which can be a good boost to your Double Attack.

Don’t go for this build first, but keep any good Double Attack items you find!

    Destiny

Key Pieces: Destiny, Gutso, Punk’n Head

This is what Vant is using to crush the Challenge leaderboards. The idea is that Destiny will proc Gutso enough in the first and second wave to make you out speed everything else and absolutely wreck the Boss. Destiny hits all enemies three times, so you can gain a ton of Dexterity very quickly.

Punk’n Head is also important to this build to help ensure you can use Destiny’s 90 mana ability every turn. Without it, you’ll need 900 Karma to use it on your first turn. Missing out on that first move makes the build much less reliable.

    Way Wind’s Grace

Key Pieces: Way Wind’s Grace, Gutso

This build still needs some testing, but could also be good for pushing Challenges. The idea is that Gutso increases your Dexterity and that Dexterity boosts your Physical Damage because of Way Wind’s legendary power. The more Dexterity you get, the more Physical Damage you can do. Get it charged up and you can beat anything. The only issue is that you don’t get the triple proc chance that Destiny provides.

    Dragon Twister

Key Pieces: Troll Piercer, Apprentice Bow, Punk’n Head, Glimmer

This build can deal massive damage. The offhand weapon of the Three Sword Style Set offers the move Dragon Twister. It has the highest damage of any attack in the game AND hits all enemies. The only catch is that it also has the highest Mana Cost. This requires a lot of Major Traits in Karma. It also requires you to give up a lot of offensive Minor Traits in exchange for Mana Regenerate or Mana Cost Reduction. A good Punk’n head is a necessity for the build.

The other catch is that the auto battler will prioritize moves that you can cast, so it never saves Mana up for Dragon Twister. The trick is to use a mainhand weapon that doesn’t have Mana spending abilities. Unfortunately, this means the Rare item, Apprentice Bow. Your basic attack will be pretty weak, but get enough Mana to cast Dragon Twister and it doesn’t matter!

Glimmer is always a great companion choice, but the healing and Mana it can provide can be very important for making this build work at lower levels.

That’s it for now. Let me know of any new builds that you come up with, in our Discord server!

  • The Roadmap!

It’s been a little while (actually a big while) since the last Glubdate. I want to get back into this habit and let everyone know what we might be working on in the background. Feel free to send me questions and topic ideas that you might have. Discord is the best place for that.

We have a new roadmap now, focusing on filling out game modes and features of Tier 1. I would like to add Tier 2, but right now it’s too big of an undertaking and we think our efforts are better spent improving what we already have.

The next thing on the roadmap is fixing some issues with Challenges. I have an entire document outlining issues and fixes. But in short, Challenges are confusing. They’re fun but have no real goal other than getting on the leaderboard. And let’s face it, no one is beating Vant anytime soon. I’m not ready to get into all the details yet, but just know there’s some big changes coming to Challenges.

After that, we desperately need a Stash for all those cool items that are clogging up your inventories. With that we’re looking at sometime in the new year. It depends on how long Challenges take to fix. I’m hoping that update is quick and easy, but most of the time there’s unforeseen challenges and bugs.

We’ll have to do something for the Solstice Celebration. Maybe a new Artifact or some seasonal drops?

After those things the world is our oyster. Everything currently “wrong” with the game will be addressed and hopefully players, new and old, will find it a lot more enjoyable to grind.

After all of that, the next thing I want to focus on (and this is just an early preliminary announcement) is something that can help build community and foster some competition. I’m calling the game mode “World Boss”. All the details are still being worked out and are subject to change, but imagine one giant mob attacking Topia and everyone working together to whittle down its health over the course of a week. Everyone will do as much damage as possible during their attempts and eventually it will be defeated! Leaderboard cred for the top players! And potential new loot for everyone!

To hear me talk more about this Roadmap, check out Podcast Episode 73.

I hope this gets you excited for the future of Dungeons of the Obelisk! We’re still working hard to make this game the best it can be. See you in the dungeons, adventurer!

  • Coming Soon!

That’s right! It’s been a long two and a half years of development, but we are finally able to get our Steam Coming Soon page up. Our posted release date is March 28th, 2024. But we still have a lot to do before then…

Before the game launches we need to do some more bug hunting. That means we will soon be letting people into the Test Realm via Steam’s playtest feature. Head over to the DotO Store Page and sign up now.

Dungeons of the Obelisk is coming soon…

The team at Knob Cat has worked so hard for us to get to this point and I appreciate their passion for this project. I really hope everyone feels the same way once they’re able to actually play.

Let’s keep this post short and sweet. Thank you for your interest in our game!

  • DotO Update: December 2023

Whoa, I really slacked off on doing these blog updates… but we’re not here to discuss that. The last real blog post was a year ago. And, wow! We have done so much in a year.

The most asked question we get is, obviously, “When can I play DotO?”. The short answer is As Soon As Possible.

    Always squashing those Glubs…

The longer answer is; we have been waiting to get all the basic features that are needed to fully enjoy the game. Everything that deals with the server has been a huge hassle and took way longer than we had thought! That being said, all features are finally in the game, but some still need a bit of polishing.

We hope to open a “Test Realm” soon where we can let members of the discord in to help us hunt for those game breaking bugs. The “Test Realm” will be completely deleted before the real game goes live. That means it’s purely for testing and you won’t be able to keep your progress. It also mean items in the shop will be free to purchase so that everything can get fully tested.

We’ll post more of the ins n’ outs and rules n’ regulations of testing once the “Test Realm” is actually live. So what’s stopping us from doing it right now? Well, legal stuff mostly. We have to meet with our lawyer in January and get all that good stuff squared away before we can make anything public.

And for those that stuck around to read this whole post, here’s a little preview of the cosmetic reward items that bug testers will receive…

Bug Hunter Banner and the Bug Squasher

And with that, that’s a pretty good update, right? Hopefully, we’ll all be fighting Glubs in the sewer’s of Topia real soon.
